ZOOBS ANSARI IS A BRITISH MULTIDISCIPLINARY ARTIST, PHOTOGRAPHER, WRITER, PERFORMER, AND MUSICIAN.
His work explores beauty, masculinity, mortality, sexuality, addiction, reinvention, and the psychological architecture of identity. Moving between photography, moving image, literature, music, and performance, his practice is rooted in autobiography and emotional extremity, examining the tension between glamour and collapse, desire and destruction, performance and confession.
Originally emerging through photography and visual art, Ansari developed a cinematic aesthetic shaped by fashion imagery, underground culture, queer visual language, and urban mythology. His work frequently focuses on transformation, both self-created and catastrophic, drawing influence from queer experimental cinema, body horror, performance art, and diaristic forms of storytelling.
2025 ~ A SHIFT
Following a major heart attack and subsequent open heart surgery in 2025, Ansari's artistic direction became increasingly intimate and body-focused. The experience marked a profound shift in both his personal life and creative practice, leading to a series of writings, visual works, and musical projects confronting survival, inheritance, trauma, aging, eroticism, and physical vulnerability.
MONSTER
His latest project, MONSTER, is a hybrid work of literature, music, and experimental film exploring the psychological aftermath of bodily reconstruction after surgery. Combining homoerotic imagery, dance performance, confessional writing, and documentation of his scarred post~surgical body, the project examines the body as both archive and spectacle, simultaneously fragile, grotesque, erotic, and defiant.
Working across disciplines, Ansari's practice exists in conversation with traditions of queer autobiographical art, underground cinema, and transgressive performance, positioning personal experience not as private confession but as raw artistic material.
